Each piece is handwritten by Soonie, who learnt traditional Korean calligraphy in Seoul in 1977. Every work is created using the “Four Treasures of the Study”: the brush (붓), ink stick (먹, meok), inkstone (벼루, byeoru), and Hanji paper (한지). Signed by the artist with her personal name stamp (in red).

Additional information:
The traditional Korean art of artistic writing, or calligraphy, is called Seoye (서예). It's an art form that focuses not just on legible writing, but on expressing the artist's spirit and emotion through the strength and flow of the brushstrokes.
The name itself is significant:
• Seo (서/書) means "writing" or "script" and Ye (예/藝) means "art" or "skill."
Seoye translates to the "art of writing."
Calligraphy in Korea involves writing both:
• Hanja (漢字): The Chinese characters that were historically used.
• Hangul (한글): The native Korean alphabet, invented in the 15th century.
The traditional Korean paper, widely used for Korean calligraphy, is called Hanji (한지).
• Hanji literally means "the paper of Korea."
• It is a high-quality, handmade paper made from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree (called dak in Korean).
• It is highly valued by calligraphers and artists for its durability, absorbency, and subtle texture, which allows the ink to set beautifully without smudging or bleeding.
